Mayor of Carmo District Resigns Amid No-Confidence Motion

Bosaso (WDN)- The Mayor of Carmo District in Puntland’s Bari region Mohamed Ali Shire, has formally resigned from his post following growing pressure from members of the local council.

Speaking at the opening of a district council session on Wednesday morning, Shire addressed the chamber candidly, acknowledging the discontent among councilors and defending his record in office.

“I’m aware of the murmurs among the councilors,” he said. “I’ve done what I could during my time in office, and had I not been obstructed, I would have achieved even more. Some of those criticizing me have never once taken a seat in an office. But to the people who supported me, know that this morning I have made the decision to resign.”

The resignation follows the submission of a no-confidence motion by the majority of district council members, who accused the mayor of underperformance and failure to carry out his responsibilities effectively.

Local officials have yet to announce who will assume the role in an acting capacity, as the council prepares for a leadership transition.
