King (Boqor) Burhan Welcomes Federal Recognition of SSC-Khatumo Administration

Qardho (WDN) — King Burhan Muse, the revered traditional monarch of the Darod clan, has warmly welcomed the Federal Government of Somalia’s official recognition of the newly formed SSC-Khatumo administration, encompassing the regions of Sool, Sanaag, Ayn, and Khatumo.

In a statement issued from Qardho, King Burhan expressed deep gratitude for what he described as a “historic and meaningful” gesture from Mogadishu. The king specifically praised the recent visit of Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre to the Sool region, which he said marked a turning point in federal engagement with the communities of northern Somalia.

“I respectfully and appreciatively welcomed the visit of the Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia to the Sool region, which was of special importance,” King Burhan said. “I also welcome the federal government recognizing the SSC-Khatumo administration as a regional state, similar to other federal member states in the country.”

King Burhan, widely regarded as influential traditional leaders in Somalia, emphasized the importance of unity, reconciliation, and peaceful coexistence among all Somali communities. “I call for peace to live, to preserve the neighborhood and kinship between the Somali people on all sides,” he added.

The federal recognition of SSC-Khatumo comes at a pivotal time for the region, which has seen years of political tension and contested control. The move is expected to bolster efforts to stabilize the area and integrate it more fully into Somalia’s federal system.

Political observers note that the symbolic endorsement by King Burhan could help bridge divides between communities and lend traditional legitimacy to the emerging SSC-Khatumo state. It also signals a broader shift in the federal government’s approach to managing internal boundaries and recognizing locally supported administrations.
