In Historic Shift, SSC-Khaatumo Leader Heads to Mogadishu to Join Somalia’s National Dialogue

LAS’ANOD (WDN)Abdulqadir Ahmed Aw-Ali (Firdhiye, the leader of the newly recognized SSC-Khaatumo Interim Administration by the Federal Government of Somalia, is expected to arrive the capital Mogadishu to attend the National Consultative Council (NCC) meeting set to open on May 1 at Villa Somalia. His participation, at the invitation of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, is the first time SSC-Khaatumo has been formally represented at the country’s top decision-making forum.

When Abdulqadir Ahmed Aw-Ali (Firdhiye) steps off the plane in Mogadishu, he will carry more than just the hopes of SSC-Khaatumo — he will represent a new chapter in Somalia’s long and often fractured journey toward unity.

For Firdhiye, the journey is deeply symbolic. In a recent interview, he highlighted the significance of a “northern voice” finally being part of a council once dominated by southern leaders.
“We are here to complete the Somali picture,” he said. “Unity, solidarity, and a common future — these are the values we bring.”

The NCC gathering comes at a critical time. With Jubaland and Puntland boycotting the talks, discussions are expected to center on the fight against Al-Shabaab and the path to the 2026 elections.

Firdhiye’s visit follows a landmark trip by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre to Las’anod earlier this year, during which the federal government officially recognized SSC-Khaatumo.

Unlike his earlier, low-profile visit to the capital, Firdhiye now arrives as a full political actor — ready to help shape Somalia’s future at a time when unity has never been more crucial.
