Mogadishu (WDN)- The Gurmad Qaran Movement (GQ) has released a policy brief outlining what it describes as a viable pathway to resolve the political impasse surrounding Somalia’s 2026 elections, warning that the country has entered a critical phase that could undermine national stability and security.
In the document, GQ emphasizes that lessons drawn from the 2021 crisis clearly demonstrate that overcoming political deadlock requires adherence to the rule of law, inclusive dialogue, and broad-based consensus. The movement proposes a time-bound transitional plan, introduced at a moment when the federal parliament’s term has expired and the executive’s mandate is set to end on May 15, 2026.
GQ argues that a National Salvation Framework—an inclusive, limited-duration transitional arrangement, could provide a credible pathway out of the current electoral crisis and help steer the country toward a stable and negotiated political settlement.
