Garowe (WDN– In a significant step toward improving urban infrastructure and public health, the Municipality of Garowe and the construction firm TTN officially signed a landmark agreement to kickstart the long-anticipated Water Drainage Project for the capital city of Puntland.

The agreement, which marks the beginning of the project’s first phase, was hailed by local officials as a major milestone in Garowe’s journey toward modern, resilient urban development. The initiative is fully funded by the World Bank and will be implemented by the Garowe Municipality in collaboration with TTN, which was selected as the executing contractor for its proven expertise in civil engineering and drainage systems.

“This is a proud day for Garowe,” read a statement from the Municipality. “The signing of this agreement signifies our unwavering commitment to tackling long-standing issues caused by poor drainage, especially during the rainy seasons. We are excited to embark on this transformative journey with the support of the World Bank and our partners at TTN.”

Urban flooding and stagnant water have long posed serious challenges to Garowe’s growing population, leading to property damage, road erosion, and increased risk of disease. The new drainage project aims to significantly reduce these hazards by establishing a modern, efficient system capable of managing stormwater and wastewater throughout key areas of the city.

Mayor of Garowe, Geeddi Ahmed Tuure, who is currently abroad, shared his enthusiasm for the project in a recent public address. “This is more than just a construction project—it’s a step toward a healthier, cleaner, and more livable Garowe. Our administration is dedicated to ensuring sustainable development that benefits every citizen.”

Community members have welcomed the announcement with optimism, seeing the drainage project as a long-overdue investment that will enhance daily life and protect the city’s future.
