Garowe Court Sentences Man to Four Years in Prison for Torturing Young Yemeni Boy

Garowe (WDN)- A court in Garowe, Puntland, has sentenced Cabdifitaax Cabdinuur to four years in prison after he was found guilty of torturing a young Yemeni boy in the city’s INJI market. The victim, whose family is living in Garowe as refugees, was reportedly subjected to severe physical abuse, prompting a legal case against the perpetrator.

During the trial, the First-Degree Court of Garowe District reviewed key evidence, including video footage capturing Cabdinuur brutally assaulting the young boy. The recording, which was presented before the court, played a crucial role in securing a conviction. When confronted with the evidence, Cabdifitaax Cabdinuur confessed to the crime, leaving no doubt about his actions.

Following deliberations, the court issued a four-year prison sentence and ruled that Cabdinuur must not engage in any public sector employment for the duration of his sentence. Additionally, he was fined $1,500 in psychological compensation and ordered to cover the medical expenses for the child’s injuries.

In a further revelation, the court found that Cabdinuur had illegally worn a government military uniform despite not being a member of the security forces. According to the presiding judge, Avv. Cabdikariin Maxamed Nuur, the defendant used the uniform to mislead the public and operate in areas where he had no official authority.

The verdict has been welcomed by the Yemeni refugee community in Garowe, who expressed relief that justice had been served. Puntland authorities have also reiterated their commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that those who engage in violence, particularly against vulnerable individuals, face the full force of the justice system.
