Tehran (WDN) – Foreign delegations from across Asia and the Middle East continue to arrive in Tehran as Iran prepares for one of the largest state funerals in the history of the Islamic Republic following the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The funeral ceremonies, which form part of a week-long national mourning program, have drawn senior political leaders and government representatives from numerous countries, reflecting Khamenei’s influence across the region during his nearly four decades as Iran’s highest political and religious authority.

Among the first high-profile visitors to arrive was Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsen Naqvi, accompanied by an official Pakistani delegation. Additional Pakistani leaders, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, are also expected to participate in the state funeral.

Afghanistan’s Taliban-led government is represented by a delegation headed by Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi, while China has dispatched a senior delegation led by He Wei, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress. The Chinese delegation was formally received by senior Iranian parliamentary officials upon its arrival in Tehran. (Reuters)

Delegations from Turkmenistan, Armenia, and several other countries have also reached the Iranian capital, where they are expected to join Iranian leaders, religious scholars, and millions of mourners for the official farewell ceremonies.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who died at the age of 86, was killed during the opening phase of the U.S.-Israeli military campaign against Iran in February 2026, according to Iranian authorities and international media reports. His death marked a defining moment in the conflict and ended a 37-year tenure as Iran’s Supreme Leader and Commander-in-Chief of the country’s armed forces.

Iranian authorities have described the funeral as a national moment of mourning and unity, with ceremonies scheduled across multiple cities before Khamenei is laid to rest in his hometown of Mashhad. Massive crowds are expected to participate in what is anticipated to be one of the largest public gatherings in the country’s modern history.
