Ikhlaas Ibrahim Amin Had Been Missing for Two Days; Three People Detained as Police Investigate Her Death

Baidoa (WDN) — A heartbreaking search for a missing five-year-old girl has ended in tragedy after the body of Ikhlaas Ibrahim Amin was discovered just meters from her family home in the Xaqsoor area of Baidoa, South West State.

Ikhlaas disappeared at around 2 p.m. on Wednesday, according to relatives. For two days, security forces searched Baidoa and surrounding areas in an effort to find the child. Her body was discovered late Friday near a maternal and child health centre adjacent to her family’s home.

Police have detained three people in connection with the investigation — two women and a young man. A police officer said one of the detainees had been working as a guard at the health facility where the girl’s body was found. Authorities stressed that those detained remain under investigation and have not been formally charged.

Questions Surround Her Death

A relative, Ibrahim Mohamed Amin, said the family noticed injuries on the child’s body which they believed indicated that she had been beaten and strangled. Those claims have not been officially confirmed by police or medical authorities.

Ikhlaas’s body was taken to Bay Regional Hospital, where medical examinations and a post-mortem investigation are being conducted to establish the official cause of death.

Until those findings are released, the circumstances surrounding the child’s death remain unclear.

Leadership Demands Answers

The case has drawn the attention of South West State leader Adan Mohamed Nur (Adan Madoobe), who reportedly instructed police and intelligence authorities to conduct an urgent investigation.

A presidential official said Adan Madoobe wants the investigation completed quickly so authorities can establish how the child died and identify anyone responsible.

Police say the investigation remains ongoing and that they are working to establish what happened at the location where Ikhlaas was found and whether others may have been involved.

A Family Already Displaced

The tragedy has struck a family that had already endured displacement. Ikhlaas’s family was among internally displaced families relocated in July to newly constructed homes in Xaqsoor.

Now, instead of celebrating the security of a new home, the family is mourning the loss of a five-year-old child whose life ended under circumstances that remain unanswered.

Her relatives are demanding a full investigation, the establishment of the official cause of death and the prosecution of anyone found responsible. For the community, the questions are painfully simple: How did a five-year-old girl disappear from her home and end up dead so close to where her family lived?
