AFRICOM Delegation Meets Puntland President in Bosaso to Discuss Counter Terrorism Cooperation

Bosaso, (WDN)- Bosaso, the commercial capital of Puntland, for official security talks with Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni.

The visit centers on bolstering joint efforts against terrorism, with a strong focus on operations targeting ISIS militants operating in Puntland’s mountainous regions.

According to reliable sources within Puntland’s security agencies, the meeting will cover key areas including intensified airstrikes against ISIS hideouts, intelligence-sharing mechanisms, and expanding U.S. support to Puntland’s counter-terrorism operations.

U.S. officials reportedly expressed interest in deepening direct cooperation with the Puntland government—bypassing the Federal Government in Mogadishu—amid growing concerns over the effectiveness and neutrality of Villa Somalia in coordinating national security strategies.

The visit marks a significant step in Puntland’s ongoing partnership with the United States in the fight against terrorism and reaffirms AFRICOM’s strategic interest in stabilizing northeastern Somalia.
