Bosaso (WDN) – A cargo ship identified as Sea World, was intercepted off the coast of Bareedo by the Puntland Maritime Police Force (PMPF) while reportedly carrying a mixed cargo of weaponry, including armored vehicles and emergency response vehicles from Turkey.
According to local sources, the vessel first drew attention when it was spotted by fishermen operating in the area, who subsequently alerted the PMPF. Acting on the tip, PMPF forces boarded and searched the vessel. The cargo, believed to have originated from Turkey, was reportedly en route to Mogadishu.
The discovery has sparked confusion and speculation, as neither the Federal Government of Somalia nor the Puntland administration has issued an official statement regarding the shipment. Some sources claim the cargo was a sanctioned delivery intended for the Federal Government, while others suggest it was privately owned by Somali businessmen.
Despite the sensitive nature of the cargo, Puntland authorities has reportedly allowed the Sea World to continue its journey.
The incident raises fresh questions about transparency, coordination, and the regulation of arms shipments into Somalia—particularly at a time of heightened political and security tensions between federal and regional administrations.
The lack of official communication surrounding the incident only adds to the public’s unease and fuels speculation over who the ultimate recipient of the cargo really is.
