It is a matter of time that people stand for their rights, when an occupying force interprets the patience of the occupied people as if they have no will power to force the unwanted guests out of their territory. The people of SSC have shown almost two years through their peaceful resistance that they do not agree to be part of a failed political dream of being an independent state, separate from the rest of the greater Somali territories and calling itself “Somaliland”.

The regional administration in Hargeisa has not considered the history of the people of SSC when they sent their militias into Las Anod and its surrounding areas. It was in these regions that the first spirit of the Somali Nationalism and the independence of the Somali people was initiated and born. It is this history, which is still alive in the conscience of the people of these territories; therefore there is no place in their heart to move away from this deep rooted Somali nationalism.

The result of this occupation can only lead to a disastrous path for the people of the north, if the elite in Hargeisa do not reverse its failed political Belief, based on the occupation of these regions is the road towards recognition.

They have to back up and call their militias out of these territories. There is no rational reason what so ever why a young Somali person from Hargeisa, Berbera or Buroa kill a mother in Las Anod or in Buuhoodle? Or vice versa why should a young Somali nomad from Buroa area die as a militia in Las Anod?

Furthermore we do all remember from the recent history that General Aideed and his militias tried to occupy Bay and Bakool in order to strengthen his political ambition as the leader of the Somali government. The outcome is known to anybody. The people of Bay and Bakool organised themselves under the banner of RRA. It did not take long before Aideed and his militias lost their dream of being the sole power in the south and his end was accelerated, therefore it is the interest of the elite in Hargeisa to preserve the achieved peace and co-existence of the people in the north.

There is still time that these militias leave these territories before it is too late. The people of SSC will no more tolerate their land to be occupied by an administration that has no legitimacy in their territories.

If Riyale and his collaborators still insist that they can through the gun enslave the people of SSC, I can say only one thing: do not turn the peaceful territories in the north into a war zone.
